What Are Room Block Poachers and Pirates?

Room block poachers and pirates are unscrupulous businesses that target event attendees, exhibitors and guests, enticing them to book hotel rooms outside of official room blocks. These tactics not only lead to financial fraud but can also disrupt your event experience.

Common Poaching and Piracy Tactics

Fake Reservations and Credit Card Fraud. This is the most common. Many poachers charge your credit card for non-existent reservations. You might arrive at the hotel only to find that your booking is invalid, leaving you without accommodation.

Misleading and Deceptive Practices: Poachers often use deceptive tactics to lure you into booking through them. They may falsely claim that official room blocks are full or promise superior accommodations that turn out to be subpar or far from the event venue.

Trademark Infringement and Misrepresentation: These entities frequently misuse event logos and branding to appear as legitimate representatives. This misleading presentation can trick you into believing you are booking through an official source.

Unauthorized Use of Personal Data: Poachers might obtain your contact information through unauthorized means, such as hacking or purchasing data from unreliable sources. This unauthorized access puts your personal and financial information at risk.
